Ohio State Representative Chris Widener (R) spoke on CBS’s face to face segment the other day regarding how payday lenders are harming the citizens of Ohio.

Payday lenders are an epidemic in this state. Charging the poorest of the poor interest rates of approximately 520 percent APR. Something must be done to stop this predatory practice (yet another reason why I support Jean Welch Hill).

This is not an issue concerning Democrats trying to restrict business, this is an issue of poor people being preyed upon – and it needs to stop.

Small loans should be made available to any and who are able to able to actually afford them, and other programs should be set up, either through government (go ahead and hit me on this one, I don’t care) or nonprofit organizations who actually have people in mind.
