If you live in the North West corner of Salt Lake, you may know that the city has started to install two new traffic lights at 1000 N. 1200 W. and 600 N. 900 W. If you live in this area, you also know that the city has been installing these lights for OVER THREE MONTHS!
How hard is it really? Dig a few holes, string a few wires, paint a few lines. Simple. In my mind it should take no more than a week, two at the most, to handle this task. I understand that their is no particular rush in the area, but if you are going to do the work of improving an intersection, it only logically follows that they complete the job as soon as possible. Not only are these projects eyesores while they are in waiting, but there is a legitimate hazard to not improving an intersection as soon as possible.
Is this a problem across the city? Are other people seeing similar things? I don’t recall a stop light blueprint in Mayor Becker’s plans, so I doubt there has been a rush on this sort of thing.
I must admit that I am a little disappointed in my cities government right now; don’t get me wrong, the mayors office has made some big strides in improving the city – but right now (at least in the Rose Park neighborhood) it appears that the little things are being overlooked.
If you live in the area, I encourage you to write Mayor Becker and Councilman Carlton Christensen to help move this little project along. Mayor Becker’s email is mayor@slcgov.com and Councilman Christensen is carlton.christensen@slcgov.com.
Subject: Stop lights at 1000 N. 1200 W. and 600 N. 900 W.
To the Honorable Mayor Becker and Councilman Christensen,
I have grown concerned about the lack of completion of the two stop lights being erected at the intersections of 1000 N. 1200 W. and 600 N. 900 W. respectively.
These two projects have been under way for at least two months (and most likely three) with little to no progress being made on a day to day basis. Not only are the projects eyesores, but necessary improvements to traffic safety are being delayed.
I urge you to contact whoever is in charge of these projects to ensure that they are completed in a timely and efficient manor.
Regards,
Curtis Haring
Resident, Rose Park
