As you may or may not know, the Young Democrats of Utah are holding their annual convention at the University of Utah next Saturday the 13th from 4-7 in the Saltair Room of the Union building. Everyone is invited, especially those of you under the age of 36 and liberal – in other words, Young Democrats!
What you may not know is that I am running for President of the Young Democrats of Utah, and could use your vote of support on Saturday. Although I naturally don’t like the fact that I have campaign for the position, it says a lot that the Young Dems have finally reached a point where people are clamoring to join the board rather than the outgoing board scrambling to fill positions – in fact all but one seat is contested by two or more people.
Here are a few of the things I would like to do if elected president:
- Renew our contract with our Executive Director.
- Continue annual events such as the 4th of July BBQ and post-legislative events.
- Work with the High School Chair to establish and support a high school democratic club in every county across the state.
- Work with the College Chair to establish, support, and enrich a college chapter in every major college and university from Utah State to Dixie.
- Work with the Young Professionals chair to create an environment where professionals can come together often and discuss the issues of the day.
- Lobby the Utah Democratic Party to have a YDU member formally sit on the candidate selection committee.
- Lobby the Utah State Legislature on issues ranging from equal rights to environmental protection.
- Hold quarterly meetings outside of Salt Lake County.
I would greatly appreciate your support, and if you do happen to have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at curtis.haring@gmail.com.
