Due to my desire to consistently give myself facepalms, I naturally clicked on CNN’s headline “GOP senators say Obama off to bad start.” Sure enough, both Senator McCain and Lindsay Graham are stopping their feet saying that Obama promised to sit down and talk to Republicans and talk about the stimulus and that Obama is not being bipartisan in the slightest.
I took the liberty of pointing out that, not counting the president and his various executive branch extension, there are four Republicans and four Democrats sitting around the table discussing the stimulus. Now these are not just regular ‘ol members of congress…no, these are Minority Leaders and Minority Whips – the ones that represent the ideas of their party and are able to to make individual members see the light on any particular bill. Do they also forget that Obama forced members of his party to drop certain aspects of the bill that Republicans did not like – all in the name of bipartisan ship?
Of course they remember, but they are going to hem and haw about how Obama failed because they want to make sure that we don’t think about the fact that were the stubborn ones in this equation. Do me a favor and listen to Faux News and the Rushes of the media talk about this for approximately four days after Obama signs the bill – the noise machine needs to be in full force to drown out the facts.
