It is not often in politics that you can loose a race, yet feel like you have won – today, I am happy to announce that Laura Arellano is the new Second Vice Chair of the County Democrats.
During my run for Second Vice Chair, I always had a hunch that the race would come down to the two of us; sure enough, when I had heard that I had made it to the second ballot by one vote and that my opponent would be Laura, I knew that the party had already won.
Of course I would have preferred to win and thought that I was the better candidate - after all, why should you run if you don’t think such things? But to have Laura take the helm is a great conciliation prize.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Breanne Miller, who would have made it on to the second ballot except for that one vote. Having known Breanne for years, I can honestly say that her wisdom would have proved priceless to the County Dems.
And, so, I will continue to involve myself in state and local Democratic Politics, knowing full well that the party is in able hands. I wish to thank all of my supporters in placing your trust in me – please know that Laura will be a fantastic Second Vice Chair.
P.S. I also want to take this opportunity to publicly apologize to Breanne for a terrible faux pas I committed against her – After making it to the second round, I almost immediately asked for her endorsement, thinking there would be another round of speeches. Being in a state of mind of just barely winning, I had forgotten that she was in a state of mind of just barely loosing. Though I have apologized to her in person already, I want to make sure I can do all I can to repent! Sorry Breanne!

So glad I got to meet you, Curtis!
