The ghost of former Senator Scott McCoy is strong, at least it is with HB 85, Responsible Development of Nuclear Power Generation by Jay Seegmiller (D – Sandy – District 49). You see, this bill is, word for word, the exact same bill proposed by McCoy during the last legislative session. For that reason, I will simply link you to my analysis from last year.
What I would like to add is this time around is kudos to Representative Seegmiller for picking up the gauntlet during this legislative session. I feel that the house deserves to get a chance to at least look at this bill, even though I am doubtful it will progress far in the minds of Segmillers’ “pillage the earth” colleges.
But, this is how the legislative process works; sometimes you just have to hammer away at things year after year before you can get anything done. At the very least we know that there is someone unwilling to give up the fight.

Putting a thirsty nuke plant in a state with water shortages makes absolutely no sense. We have to stick to less water-intensive approaches to power generation, especially those that can be heavily decentralized (solar, wind, etc.).
