David A. Hansen is the Constitution Party candidate for Senate District 22. His opponents are J. Stewart Adams (R)(incumbent) and Charlie Parker (D).
His website is www.RestoreMyFreedom.org, at the time of publishing, no Facebook fan page or Twitter account was provided. He can be contacted via email at dahansen2000@msn.com.
Here are David’s answers to my absurd questions:
1) How long have you lived in your district and what made you move there in the first place? I’ve lived in our home in Kaysville for about 20 years. We moved here because we liked the neighborhood and the bedroom community atmosphere.
2) What does your family look like (married; kids; pets)? I’m married now for about 25 years. We have four children. Our oldest son is in the Army, our daughter is married and in the National Guard, and our two younger sons, aged 14 and 17 still reside with us. We have two cats known as Little Kitty and Big Kitty.
3) What do you drive? What is your dream vehicle? Vehicles aren’t terribly important to me other than that I’m a car dealer and make my living off them, so I drive any car I please off my lot. I particularly like my AWD Subaru Impreza WRX. My dream vehicle depends on my activities. A 4×4 turbo diesel pickup works for recreation. Subaru’s, Honda’s, and Toyota’s are preferred for general commuting. For long distance vacations, I’m content with vehicles like a Dodge Grand Caravan because of their economy and still-adequate room.
4) What was the last book you finished? Just finished reading Nullification: How to Resist Federal Tyranny in the 21st Century.
5) What is your favorite store and/or restaurant in your district? No particular favorites, but several restaurants I frequent are Marie Calendars, Olive Garden, and Golden Corral. Favorite stores aren’t in my district but if they were would include Sportsman’s Warehouse.
6) Turn your head to the right, what do you see? Out my office window is a beautiful view of the Wasatch Mountains in the background, a cloudless blue sky, and a row of clean automobiles in the foreground: 4 Subaru’s, a Buick Century, a Corolla, a Chevy 4×4 Silverado and a Dodge Ram 2500 4×4.
7) In 25 words or less, explain why you are part of the Constitution party. My party represents traditional values, limited Federal government, restoration of individual and states’ rights. Both Democrats and Republicans have done anything but preserve the Constitution.
8 )Who would win if a bear and a shark fought each other (feel free to explain)? Depends on environment. In water, shark wins, on land, bear just waits for shark to suffocate.
9) In 50 words or less, explain why you want to be a public servant. An economic collapse looms. A Federal leviathan threatens individual liberties and states’ rights. The school system teaches liberal/socialistic values. Citizens have forgotten the individual values and respect that made this country great. I aim to move quickly to restore our Republic and these values.
10) What was the last cultural event you went to? Davis High School choir.
11) What are the three things you plan to fight for when elected? 1. Use principle of nullification to nullify Federal ownership of unconstitutionally Federally-owned lands: these lands should belong to the state and should be carefully utilized to provide revenues for government. 2. Nullify Federal control of education. Education should be locally controlled and funded. 3. See my website at www.RestoreMyFreedom.org and my weblog at www.RestoreMyFreedom.org/blog for several issues that need to be addressed.
12) Do you know what OMGWTFBBQ stands for? I don’t use that kind of language, and I have no idea why anyone would add barbeque to the end of it.
13) What is the most important amendment in the Bill of Rights? Right now the First Amendment. But if it gets trashed by the liberals–and the threats are very real–then the Second Amendment will take precedence to restore the First Amendment.
14) What is your favorite band? No real favorites. To my kids’ consternation, I prefer Oldies music and some classical.
15) If you could change one thing about your district, what would it be? I would like to see less dependence upon government, more concern about the overbearing tyranny of the Federal government, and more back-to-our-roots values such as lower taxes, more local manufacturing (not manufacturing shipped off to China), and less of a war-mongering/nation building attitude represented by popular talk show hosts of the day: Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity. As explained in the Nullification book mentioned above, it is perfectly constitutional to refuse to obey unconstitutional laws. I would like to see more of a spirit of resistance against unconstitutional usurpations of power. I would like to see the educational establishment teach more of the attitude that our Founders had when they resisted British tyranny. The growing tyranny we are facing is rapidly becoming worse than what our Founders experienced. Sadly, we have voted for those who have implemented it. I want the people in my district to understand that these usurpations need to be actively resisted, and that such resistance is indeed constitutional and, in fact, is also Christ-like. Just as Christ violently threw the thieves out of the temple, we need to stand vigorously against politicians who would deny us our liberties and steal the product of our labor for unconstitutional redistribution. Politicians who vote against our liberties 50% of the time are not acceptable. Neither are those who vote against liberty 10% or even 1% of the time. Every time a percentage of our liberty is lost, it becomes the starting point for more attacks on our liberty until none will be left.
