Don Jarvis is the Demcorat running in State House of Representitives, District 63. His opponent is Dean Sanpei (R)(incumbent).
His website is www.donjarvis.org and his Facebook page can be found by clicking here. He does not have a Twitter account at this time. He can be reached via email at jarvisdk@gmail.com.
Here are Don’s answers to my absurd questions:
1) How long have you lived in your district and what made you move there in the first place? 40 years. I moved here in 1970 to accept a teaching position at BYU.
2) What does your family look like (married; kids; pets)? Married, 6 grown children, 23 grandchildren, large garden.
3) What do you drive? What is your dream vehicle? We drive a 2007 Camry Hybrid. My dream vehicle is a plug-in hybrid, maybe a Chevy Volt if they prove reliable.
4) What was the last book you finished? Joseph J. Ellis. American Creation: Triumphs and Tragedies at the Founding of the Republic. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2007.
5) What is your favorite store and/or restaurant in your district? Kneader’s (a local bakery/sandwich shop)
6) Turn your head to the right, what do you see? My wife Janelle working at her computer. She is treasurer for my campaign and my chief advisor.
7) In 25 words or less, explain why you are a Democrat. I am a Democrat because of my religion which teaches long-term concern for my neighbors and family.
8) Who would win if a bear and a shark fought each other (feel free to explain)? Whoever promoted the fight and sold the tickets would win. The bear and the shark would both end up bloody and injured.
9) In 50 words or less, explain why you want to be a public servant. I want to support the religious, humanitarian and egalitarian values that historically predominated in Utah, and I believe that ethically elected representatives should implement those values honestly and fairly. These historical values are being replaced by selfishness, irrational fear, and hatred of all government, together with a dangerous reliance on corporate money and unethical practices.
10) What was the last cultural event you went to? Gian-Carlo Minotti’s comic opera “The Telephone.”
11) What are the three things you plan to fight for when elected? 1) Education, 2) “liberty and justice for all” (that includes our economy and legislative ethics) and 3) the environment
12) Do you know what OMGWTFBBQ stands for? Nope
13) What is the most important amendment in the Bill of Rights? The First Amendment. It covers many of the most crucial issues.
14) What is your favorite band? Manheim Steamroller
15) If you could change one thing about your district, what would it be? More people reading newspapers.
