Meet the Candidates: Evan Vickers, Republican candidate for House District 72

Posted by Curtis Haring

Evan Vickers is running as the Republican candidate in House District 72. His opponent is Barry Short (L), and Evan is the incumbent.

At the time of publication he did not provide a website, Facebook page, or Twitter account. He can be reached via email at evickers@utah.gov.

Here are Evan’s ansers to my absurd questions:

1)      How long have you lived in your district and what made you move there in the first place?  My family and I have lived in Cedar City since 1980.  I took a job as a pharmacist with Skaggs Drug  enter at that time and have been here ever since.

2)      What does your family look like (married; kids; pets)?  My wife, Chris, and I have been married 35 years.  We have five children,  four girls and one boy.  Four of my children are married and we have ten grandchildren.  We have one dog, a Brittany Spaniel that is trained as a bird hunting dog.

3)      What do you drive? What is your dream vehicle? Most of the time I drive a 2008 Chevy Impala except when I head for the hills when I drive a 2005 Dodge Ram.  My dream car is a cherry red Dodge Charger.

4)      What was the last book you finished? The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.

5)      What is your favorite store and/or restaurant in your district? Milts.

6)      Turn your head to the right, what do you see? A picture of Jesus Christ on the wall in my den where I am completing this survey.

7)      In 25 words or less, explain why you are a Republican. I believe in conservative principles both fiscally and socially.  Over the years the Republican Party has best matched my value system.

8)      Who would win if a bear and a shark fought each other (feel free to explain)? A bear because of their power and agility.

9)      In 50 words or less, explain why you want to be a public servant.  I have always enjoyed serving the public.  I was on the city council for twelve years and look back upon it as a very good experience.  I like to be involved in trying to help make our area a better place to live.  I also believe that I have been very blest and feel that I need to give back to the community.

10)  What was the last cultural event you went to?  Much Ado About Nothing at the Utah Shakespearean Festival.

11)  What are the three things you plan to fight for when elected? Improved and Better Funded Education both K-12 and Higher Ed, Lower Taxes, Improved Economic Development.

12)  Do you know what OMGWTFBBQ stands for? No.

13)  What is the most important amendment in the Bill of Rights? The First.

14)  What is your favorite band? Creedence Clearwater Revival.

15)  If you could change one thing about your district, what would it be? More and higher paying jobs.
