Meet the Candidates: Johnny Anderson, Republican candidate for House District 34

Posted by Curtis Haring

Johnny Anderson is the Republican running in the State House of Representatives, District 34. His opponent is Clover Meaders (D), and Anderson is the incumbent.

His website is website is www.vote4johnny.com and he can be found on Facebook by clicking here. At the time of publication, Johnny did not provide a Twitter account. He can be reached via email at johnny@vote4johnny.com.

Here are Johnny’s answers to my absurd questions:

1)      How long have you lived in your district and what made you move there in the first place? I have lived here since 1992.  We moved away for a few years in 1994 when my sister passed away so we could help with her kids.  Then we moved back in 2000.  My wife and I both grew up in Taylorsville and we love the area.  We wanted to raise our family here.

2)      What does your family look like (married; kids; pets)? My wife and I have been married for 20 years (this November).  We have five kids: four boys 17, 15, 12, 7, and a 4 year-old little girl.

3)      What do you drive? A 2005 Cadillac STS.  I bought it used, got a great deal, and LOVE the car. What is your dream vehicle? I have always wanted a Vette!

4)      What was the last book you finished? The First Tycoon, The Epic Life of Cornelius Vanderbilt.

5)      What is your favorite store and/or restaurant in your district? Leatherby’s or Bajio, it’s a toss-up.  I also love The Cleaning Supplier.  The owner, Jim is all about service.  I do most of my banking at KeyBank.  The manager, Tina and the other ladies there are awesome.

6)      Turn your head to the right, what do you see? My piano.

7)      In 25 words or less, explain why you are a Republican. I believe in personal responsibility, limited government, and freedom.  I also believe in compassion, helping others, serving the community, and loving my neighbor.

8)      Who would win if a bear and a shark fought each other (feel free to explain)? A shark, assuming it’s a big one.  For a shark to be in the fight, it would have to be in water and the shark would have an overwhelming advantage.

9)      In 50 words or less, explain why you want to be a public servant. I have spent my adult life starting a business and growing that business to be the largest, locally-owned of its kind.  I understand economics, have created jobs, and understand what is needed for small business to succeed and our economy to grow.  I bring that perspective to the Legislature.

10)  What was the last cultural event you went to? A festival in a small town by Mazatlan, Mexico.  I don’t remember what they were celebrating but it was a lot of fun.

11)  What are the three things you plan to fight for when elected? Education, West Side transportation projects, and some reason in the immigration debate.

12)  Do you know what OMGWTFBBQ stands for? Something…Something…Something…barbeque???  My guess would be; Oh my gosh, where’s the freaking barbeque.

13)  What is the most important amendment in the Bill of Rights? Freedom of Speech, the Press, and Religion (1st).

14)  What is your favorite band? Def Leppard.

15)  If you could change one thing about your district, what would it be? Reduce unemployment.
