Meet the Candidates: Rick Raile, Republican for House District 25

Posted by Curtis Haring

Rick Raile is running as the Republican candidate for House District 25. His opponent is Joel K. Briscoe (D). This is an open seat with no incumbent but was previously held by Christine Johnson (D).

His website is www.voterickraile.com, and he can be found on Facebook by clicking here. He did not provide a Twitter account. He can be contacted via email at rick@voterickraile.com.

Here are Rick’s answers to my absurd questions:

1)      How long have you lived in your district and what made you move there in the first place? 16 years.

2)      What does your family look like (married; kids; pets)? Photo attached (see end of post).

3)      What do you drive? What is your dream vehicle? H1 for rescue work  (Red Cross HOPE and CERT), BMW M Roadster for fun and Mini Cooper for practicality. Dream vehicle is Mercedes S550.

4)      What was the last book you finished? Dumbing Us Down and Made to Stick (finished the same night).

5)      What is your favorite store and/or restaurant in your district? Caputo’s Market (Matt Caputo is my good buddy) for restaurants Pago, Sea Salt, Market Street Grill, Ruth’s Diner for breakfast, Pie Pizzeria at the U and  Maxwell’s in Park City for pizza.

6)      Turn your head to the right, what do you see? My wife’s office and Emigration Canyon out the window.

7)      In 25 words or less, explain why you are a Republican. I love the concept of living in a  “republic” with limited government and maximum personal freedom to flourish.

8)      Who would win if a bear and a shark fought each other (feel free to explain)? Great question, but I would ask: What kind of bear and what kind of shark specifically? Are they in the bear’s environment or the shark’s environment? Assuming they are even in the water, is the bear standing on the bottom in a fresh water stream or is it treading water at sea? All of the variables have to be noted before a proper assessment can be made.

9)      In 50 words or less, explain why you want to be a public servant. It is in my nature to be service oriented, I gain pleasure from working to help others. With my diverse interests and work experience I feel I am well suited to do the job in our amazingly diverse District 25. I have been blessed with good fortune in business and would love to have the opportunity to give back to my community. It is certainly not for the money!

10)  What was the last cultural event you went to? Concert

11)  What are the three things you plan to fight for when elected? 1-Help develop business in Utah to get to a point of 0% state tax for residents 2-Analyze and improve our school system 3-Fight for the rights of Utahans not getting a fair shake out of the system. 3a-Hate for any reason really bothers me and motivates me to fight for the hated, whom ever they may be.

12)  Do you know what OMGWTFBBQ stands for? LOL!

13)  What is the most important amendment in the Bill of Rights? Personally, the 1st amendment.

14)  What is your favorite band? U2, specifically Joshua Tree

15)  If you could change one thing about your district, what would it be? The environment, we need to pay attention to clean air and clean water. We live in such an amazing setting, yet the air we breath is polluted and the water coming down out of even my own canyon where I live is contaminated. Obviously, the scope of this goes beyond District 25, but you have to start somewhere.
