Meet the Candidates: Russ Hatch, Constitution Party candidate for House District 50

Posted by Curtis Haring

Russ Hatch is running as the Constitution Party candidate for House District 50. His opponents are Merlynn T. Newbold (R)(incumbent), Gary R. Olsen (D).

Russ did not provide a website, Facebook fan page, or Twitter account at the time of publication. He can be reached via email at rghatch@yahoo.com.

Here are Russ’ answers to my absurd questions:

1)      How long have you lived in your district and what made you move there in the first place? For five years.  wanted to get out of  “the city.”

2)      What does your family look like (married; kids; pets)? Married, blended (her son, my daughter – both now 28 with their own families) and now empty nesters. no pets.

3)      What do you drive? What is your dream vehicle? 98 Chevy Lumina – anything that will get me from point a to point b.

4)      What was the last book you finished? One Second After.

5)      What is your favorite store and/or restaurant in your district? AA Callisters Gecko’s.

6)      Turn your head to the right, what do you see? Books on book shelves.

7)      In 25 words or less, explain why you are part of the Constitution party. I am so disappointed with the fruits of our political system and feel that a totally new paradigm/party is the only answer.

8)      Who would win if a bear and a shark fought each other (feel free to explain)? Depends on where they would fight – on land or in sea  — i guess it might be a draw if they fought in the air.

9)      In 50 words or less, explain why you want to be a public servant. As my wife observes, I am a common man.  If a common man cannot serve the public in a capable manner, our political system is way too complicated and inbred.

10)  What was the last cultural event you went to? Saw the John Schmidt concert at the Sandy Amphitheater.

11)  What are the three things you plan to fight for when elected? States’ rights, taxpayer rights, and minimal law creation.

12)  Do you know what OMGWTFBBQ stands for? I don’t think I want to know if it is about a barbeque.

13)  What is the most important amendment in the Bill of Rights? The Second, the guarantor of the rest of the Amendments of the Bill of Rights as well as the Constitution itself.

14)  What is your favorite band? The Moody Blues.

15)  If you could change one thing about your district, what would it be? I don’t think I would or could.  People are what makes this legislative district.  If anything is to change, it is they who will decide to change.
