Shirene Saddler is running as the Republican in House District 29, Her opponent is Janice Fisher (D) (incumbent).
She did not provide a website or Twitter account at the time of publication, but her Facebook fan page can be found by clicking here. She can be reached via email at buzzpromo@msn.com.
Here are Shirene’s answers to my absurd questions:
1) How long have you lived in your district and what made you move there in the first place? I grew up in my district, moved away for college and an LDS mission, lived in the Avenues for 3 years after getting married and then 16 years ago moved back to my district. I liked the diversity in the neighborhood and I liked that you can see deer on a regular basis on the ATK property. My son is disabled and there are others with disabilites in the neighborhood.
2) What does your family look like (married; kids; pets)? Husband and 4 kids 2 girls 2 boys ranging from 9-15. We have 2 dogs, and a cat.
3) What do you drive? My car is a 98 Ford Taurus and hubby’s is a used Cadillac that we paid cash for. What is your dream vehicle? A 67 Mustang or Ford F150.
4) What was the last book you finished? I read voraciously, the last book I read was The Seven Miracles that Saved America. I bought it last Thursday along with several others I am working on.
5) What is your favorite store and/or restaurant in your district? In the district, my favorite store is the DI because I do like to read and so I read and recycle the books. Favorite restaurant in the District would be Chiles, outside the District would be Tsunami in Sugar House. And pretty much any Italian Restaurant except Johny Carinos.
6) Turn your head to the right, what do you see? A calendar and a bulletin board with pictures of friends and family and motivational quotes in cluding one from Zig Zigler ” People tell me motivation doesn’t last, and I tell them neither does bathing, thats why I recommend it daily.”
7) In 25 words or less, explain why you are a Republican. I am Republican because I believe in individual rights and responsibilities. I believe in the people of the United States not bureacracies. Fiscal Conservatism.
8) Who would win if a bear and a shark fought each other (feel free to explain)? Depends on where they were. :) I don’t think bears can swim very well. So in the water the shark. And since it isn’t likely that a shark could maneuver away from a bear on land, the advantage would go to the bear.
9) In 50 words or less, explain why you want to be a public servant. It stems from the conviction that I need to stand up for what I believe in. Our current representative is ineffective and I could not in good conscience sit by the wayside and allow someone who was not representing me to be elected again without contest.
10) What was the last cultural event you went to? A play at the Empress Theater. (Where I have also performed)
11) What are the three things you plan to fight for when elected? These are 3 of a list: Stricter DUI penalties, Keeping jobs and businesses in Utah, REAL healthcare reform.
12) Do you know what OMGWTFBBQ stands for? If you break it down OMG – yes WTF – yes but I don’t talk like that, and BBQ – only if you are talking steak or chicken.
13) What is the most important amendment in the Bill of Rights? The First.
14) What is your favorite band? I cannot pick just one. But among the top two are Styx and the Eagles.
15) If you could change one thing about your district, what would it be? More people involved in the political process. We have a sad turn out most elections. I think as citizens it is important for us to be informed and be involved.
