Live Blogging the Matheson/Love Debate

9:11 Opening statements are complete, standard stuff really. Now lets rumble!

9:14 Love says that she can be nonpartisan…despite her strong rhetoric.  Matheson rightly points out that he has a track record of working with both sides.

9:15 Matheson looks calm and relaxed during the commercial break. Love looks like she is out for blood.

9:22 Matheson supports the Dream Act but would like to see a broader discussion on the topic. Love does not support repeal of 14th Amendment but wants stricter controls on immigration so that the states don’t have to foot the bill.

9:30 What was no doubt a planted question, Matheson and Love trade barbs about federal student loans. Love says tuition has gone through the roof because there has been no leadership in Washington. Matheson reminds Love that she took advantage of these loans and shows our commitment to business and the future economy.

9:37 Love love’s the new numbers, Matheson says that he knew that it would be a close race and the gerrymandered district – It ain’t over until it is over.

9:41 The great Obamacare question – Matheson says he was against it from the get-go, Love would repeal if she gets in.

9:44 Love and Matheson both think getting rid of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was a good idea, that anyone who wants to fight for their country should be able to…they also agree on keeping marriage between a man and a woman.

9:53 Matheson wants to make sure his staffers talk to the people in the trenches, not lobbyists.

5:59 Wrap up: Both candidates have solid debates, I say no clear winner.
